Thursday 2 July 2026 Hyde Park Hotel, lunch with the guys I used to work with at Channel 7. Me at bottom-left.

Oh my goodness, it’s been so long since I last posted, but here I am at last. I was in hospital until 4 May, and cross fingers, I haven’t needed to call 000 since. The best thing is that I have my live-in carers, Claudine and her husband JR. What a stroke of luck this has been. They’re a Filipino married couple and they are using one of my spare bedrooms and the second bathroom in return for helping me. And what a help it is being. The wife is so consciencious and the husband thinks ahead and anticipates my needs. It’s worked out perfectly.

The wife works in a physically demanding job and the husband the same, except that he’s studying part time at ECU Joondalup for a degree in electrical engineering. He has part-time work in building labouring.

I thought I was going OK at home, but on Tuesday 16th June I felt so weak after breakfast that I crashed onto the bed and didn’t feel I could move. Luckily my carer was there at the time and my friend Natalie arrived imminently, so between the two of them, they discussed what to do. The concensus was to call 000 and the ambulance came after about 30 mins, two girls this time, and they talked long and hard about what to do. In the end, they phoned the Joondalup Hospital ED and asked what to do. Bring him in, they were told, so it was off to that familiar place again.

To cut a long story short, after about 8 hrs waiting in the corridor (!) I was taken to one of the “prison cells” in the ED. Another two hours waiting! Finally, around 10.30pm, I was taken upstairs to a room in Ward H4. What a relief! Very poor view this time, looking at a fairly blank wall. But at least I had a big window.

Long story but the weakness seemed to be due to a bladder infection. Not surprising I felt so crook.

I have a powered wheelchair, as I think I’ve said, and I admit I’m a bit nervous about using it. I had committed to driving myself to the Dome cafe tomorrow, but the batteries went flat and it wouldn’t move. Phew, I thought.

I’ll do it, but in the meantime it’ll be Uber Eats tomorrow.
